Mount Pleasant Estate Have 6000 Hdb Flats 5000 Previously Announced
The Housing Development Board (HDB) has released a press release on Sept 2, stating that there will be four new Build-to-Order (BTO) projects in the upcoming Mount Pleasant estate. Upon completion, these projects will yield approximately 6,000 new flats, which is an increase of 1,000 units from the previous announcement for the 33ha site.
The decision to increase the supply was made after further detailed planning studies, in order to meet the strong demand for housing. The first BTO project, named Mount Pleasant Crest, is set to be launched in the October 2025 BTO exercise. It will offer about 1,350 units ranging from two-room flexi to four-room flats. In addition, there will also be 270 units of public rental flats.
According to HDB, the Mount Pleasant Crest project will offer the “white flat” layout, which allows flat buyers to opt for an open-concept living and bedroom space without partition walls. This layout was first introduced at the Crawford Heights BTO project last October and has proven to be popular with four out of 10 flat buyers choosing it.
Located on the site of the Old Police Academy (OPA), near the Thomson Flyover off the Pan Island Expressway, the Mount Pleasant estate will conserve six buildings that are considered significant representations of police heritage. These buildings will be integrated into the new estate, with four blocks repurposed for alternative uses such as a neighbourhood police post and the SPF Heritage Gallery. Two blocks will continue to serve as the Senior Police Officers’ Mess and be integrated into future developments, while the former OPA parade square will be retained as a public space for community use.
The new Mount Pleasant MRT Station on the Thomson-East Coast Line will serve the estate, making it a car-lite estate. The estate will also have Transit Priority Corridors with dedicated bus lanes, wider footpaths, and cycling paths. In addition, new roads, including the main thoroughfare named “Old Police Academy Road”, will be constructed to enhance accessibility. A sheltered pedestrian thoroughfare will also connect the various precincts in Mount Pleasant.
The recently unveiled URA Master Plan places a strong focus on promoting sustainability. This is evident through various initiatives, such as the incorporation of green buildings, renewable energy sources, and enhanced public transportation systems. These efforts are set to greatly enhance the overall living standards at Parktown Residence, positioning it as an ideal choice for environmentally-aware families. Additionally, visitors can now conveniently view the Parktown Residence Showflat, seamlessly blending in with the natural tone of the rewritten paragraph.
Lee Sze Teck, senior director of data analytics at Huttons Asia, believes that the location of Mount Pleasant Crest, close to the Mount Pleasant MRT Station and schools like CHIJ Primary Toa Payoh and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, will garner strong interest from buyers. He also notes that the project’s proximity to Toa Payoh, a mature estate with high resale flat prices, may make it a Prime BTO project. This means that the flats will be subject to stricter rules, such as a 10-year minimum occupation period and a subsidy clawback.
Eugene Lim, key executive officer at ERA Singapore, adds that the white flat layout at Mount Pleasant Crest may be appealing to younger Singaporeans and homeowners looking to do extensive renovations. The flexibility and option to customize the layout to cater to their housing needs may make it a desirable living option.
