Keppel Launches First Senior Living Facility in Nanjing
Keppel has proudly opened its first senior living facility, Sindora Living Nanjing Qixia, in Asia. Located in Nanjing, China, this purpose-built 400-bed facility marks a significant milestone for Keppel as they expand their presence in the senior care services industry in the region.
The increasing aging population in many parts of the world, particularly in Asia, has created high demand for quality senior care services. CEO of Real Estate at Keppel, Louis Lim, affirms this trend, saying, “Today, we are pleased to present the flagship project for Sindora Living – Keppel’s senior living brand and operating platform for Asia.”
Spanning a total built-up area of 213,543 sq ft, Sindora Living Nanjing Qixia was acquired by Keppel from China Overseas Land & Investment Limited in 2022. With Keppel’s plans to refit the asset into a premier assisted living community, the property is now transformed into a state-of-the-art senior living facility.
Apart from providing quality care and accommodation, the facility also offers day-care and home-care services to residents in nearby communities. Its strategic location, surrounded by mature residential projects, schools, parks, and hospitals, allows for a wide range of activities, including preventative, therapeutic, and intergenerational programs and trips to local attractions.
In line with Keppel’s commitment to sustainability, the project incorporates low-carbon, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly solutions. It has been awarded the Gold certification under the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system.
“The Nanjing facility will serve as a launchpad for our expansion into other senior living markets in China and beyond, and we look forward to creating more communities where seniors can lead active, fulfilling, and purposeful lives while enjoying best-in-class services and care,” says Lim.
With a 50% stake in the US-based senior living operator Watermark Retirement Communities, which manages around 70 communities, Keppel is already well-established in the industry. The launch of Sindora Living Nanjing Qixia marks the beginning of a new chapter in Keppel’s senior living journey, with plans to expand into other markets in China and beyond. As Lim puts it, “We look forward to creating more communities where seniors can age gracefully and joyfully.”
