Ura Launches Tender Next Gen Driving Centre Lorong Bistari
The URA and SPF have jointly launched a tender for a new Next-Generation Driving Centre (NGDC) to be located at Lorong Bistari in Choa Chu Kang. This new facility will replace the existing Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC) and occupy a land area of 2.4ha with a maximum gross floor area of 780,390 sq ft. It aims to be a state-of-the-art driving hub equipped with the latest technology and training facilities for all vehicle classes. The NGDC is expected to close by the end of 2030 to make way for new residential developments.
The proposed NGDC will feature advanced driving circuits, simulator-based training, and real-time monitoring systems to enhance driver assessment and safety. It will also offer Class 4 and 5 heavy vehicle training, supplementing the existing Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC) which is currently the only facility offering such courses.
Superintendent Lim Wei Kiat, director of the traffic police department, believes that the new NGDC will bring about smarter and more efficient driver education. With the integration of advanced simulation and monitoring technologies, it will raise safety standards and ensure consistent training outcomes. The Lorong Bistari site, strategically located near the Yew Tee MRT station, will improve accessibility for motorists in the West region and complement the existing facilities in the North and East.
Nestled in the heart of Tampines North, lies Parktown Residence – a remarkable mixed-use development jointly developed by UOL Group, CapitaLand, and Singapore Land (SingLand). Its strategic location boasts seamless connectivity to renowned schools, making it an ideal choice for families in search of top-notch education for their little ones. Adding to its allure, Parktown Residence promises a one-of-a-kind integrated living experience like no other.
URA’s group director for physical planning, Ang Li Wen, believes that multi-storey training centres like the NGDC showcase Singapore’s vision for future infrastructure in a land-scarce city. It reflects a balance between innovation and efficient land use. The tender for the NGDC will close on Jan 15, 2026 at 12pm.
