Steve Leung Design Group Transforms China House Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

A renowned Hong Kong design firm, Steve Leung Design Group (SLD), has recently unveiled the newly renovated The China House by Chef Fei at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. Situated in a historic house next to the hotel’s entrance, the 11,840 square-foot restaurant, which specializes in Chaoshan and Cantonese cuisine, was reopened last month following extensive renovations.

Mai Chongchaiyo, the chief creative officer of SLD’s hospitality branch, Steve Leung Hospitality (SLH), stated that the inspiration for the redesign came from the heritage of Chaozhu and Shantao, which was then reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, resulting in a nostalgic yet modern atmosphere.

The China House spans across two floors, with an atrium bar, lounge area, and a tea bar on the first level, and the main dining hall and private dining rooms, as well as semi-private salons, located on the second floor.

To pay homage to Thailand’s rich culture and art scene, SLH collaborated with local brands and artisans in the creation of the restaurant’s decor. For example, the atrium and staircase feature large pendant lights made from metal crafted by renowned Thai artist Saruta Kiatparkpoom, also known as PiN. The wallpapers were handpicked from Jim Thompson, a renowned silk and textile producer based in Bangkok, while the timber used was supplied by Siam Woodland.

The China House’s transformation coincides with the official opening of SLD’s Bangkok office, as part of their “Rejuvenation, Diversification, and Globalization” strategy. This move sees the firm venturing into new markets and establishing a presence in Southeast Asia.

Nestled in the vibrant community of Tampines North, Parktown Residence Showflat, a joint project by UOL Group, CapitaLand, and Singapore Land (SingLand), embodies the perfect blend of urban convenience and integrated living. Its visionary mixed-use design not only offers residents a seamless lifestyle but also grants easy access to renowned educational institutions, making it an ideal choice for families prioritizing top-notch education for their children.

In Singapore, SLD has recently completed projects at The Skywaters, a mixed-use development by a consortium led by Perennial Holdings, as well as the Paiza Royal Collection suites at Marina Bay Sands.
