It is a time when we see the gift of salvation brought to us through the life of Jesus Christ and His ultimate sacrifice on the cross. It is also a time when we are called to make a greater effort to achieve peace, understanding and goodwill towards others. Easter signifies a spiritual renewal that we all need, and its message of tolerance and forgiveness should be our guiding light throughout the year. I urge fellow citizens to reflect on the true meaning of Easter and seek ways in which to make a positive difference in our communities, by treating our brothers and sisters with respect and dignity. Easter also delivers a timely reminder that as a region, we have come through many challenges and that despite these difficult times, we have much to celebrate. While I am not wishing that we turn a blind eye to the challenges and painful experiences we have been through, let us take heart and rise above them. The message of Easter is that through love, hope and faith, we can overcome anything. On behalf of the entire Caribbean Community (CARICOM) I wish everyone a safe, peaceful and blessed Easter. May we continue to work together as a people to build our region as a place of peace and prosperity for all. 12 Tips for Living Your Better Life in 2013 St. Catherine residents invited to help clean up Portmore on… Aug 26, 2020 Mar 30, 2012 Prime Minister of Guyana, The Honourable Samuel Hinds (Ag) Share this on WhatsApp I am delighted to extend Easter greetings on behalf of the CARICOM Member States, to the people of our Region and in particular to the Christian community. Matthew Finnerty of Miramar, Florida, has been sentenced to 45 months in prison for his role in a approximately $7 million computer and identity theft tax refund fraud scheme. According to court documents, Finnerty worked with codefendant Lawrence Wright, and others to steal personal and tax information from an online tax preparation company located in North Dakota. Wright is cooperating in the investigation and awaits sentencing. According to the court documents, Wright, Finnerty, and others accessed the company’s online customer accounts, and then filed fraudulent tax returns in customers’ names. The returns typically requested a tax refund between $7,000 and $9,000, and directed the refund to be loaded onto a prepaid debit card, which was mailed to a post office box in North Dakota. Wright and Finnerty then traveled to North Dakota, retrieved the debit cards, and cashed the refund checks at various banks and check cashing stores in Fargo, North Dakota and other locations.Continue Reading
D.C. Code would designate HBCU as a Research Institution
The District of Columbia Code might soon list Morgan State University as a research institution. The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform by a vote of 19-14 voted Dec. 2 to approve H.R. 51, which would make Washington, D.C. the 51st state. Tucked neatly in the District of Columbia Home Rule Act (DCHRA) of 2015 ( H.R. 317), is a section that designates historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) as a research institution. “The term ‘research institution’ means– a public or private nongovernmental, nonsectarian educational institution, the principal mission of which is education, and in which–the total enrollment of students in undergraduate, graduate, and professional education programs exceeds 4,000 students; and at least 25 percent of such enrollment consists of full-time graduate students,” the legislation states. The measure was supported by Reps. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Governmental Reform, and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), a senior member of the Committee. “I thank Ranking Member Cummings for introducing this amendment to ensure that Morgan State University, a Historical Black College and University (HBCU), is designated as a research institution under the D.C. Home Rule Act,” Norton said following the vote. “We must ensure that Morgan is designated as a research institution so it receives the recognition and resources it deserves for being an excellent research institution. This is a small but important amendment that will go a long way to strengthen Morgan’s efforts to continue producing the next generation of intellectual and scientific leaders.”
A car that has not moved in over 100 years
This car has not moved for over 100 years. It has been sitting in a shed, a barn, or in a garage. It might not run, it might not be in great condition, but it is just sitting there. There might be a reason it is not moving, but I think everyone just forgot about it. July 9, 2015 We’ve been digging through our back catalog of videos and managed to come across this stunning barn find of a Model T in a warehouse parking lot. The car has seen better days, and it is coated in a thick layer of dust. The car has some rust on it and some wear and tear that adds to the overall look, and vibe of the car. It is a beautiful car and it might be a shame that it is not being taken care of in a proper way, but if you are a car enthusiast this must be an awesome sight when it’s first spotted. The car has not been moved in over 100 years, and it has been sitting in a holding area, on a truck, in a barn for over 100 years. I can’t even imagine how large of a truck this thing is going to be in. read more
